Grieving on Valentine's Day

Here are a few suggestions to help grievers on Valentine’s Day:

  • Those ❤️’s that we are seeing everywhere this week may look 💔broken and cracked like your heart may be feeling. When we are grieving, our perceptions can be distorted and painful. And ISOLATION exacerbates our pain.

  • Valentine’s Day is on Friday this year. Perhaps you might consider inviting a friend over to share a movie and popcorn.

  • Find someone who will listen without giving advice or trying to “fix it.”

  • Plan some meaningful things to do,

    • such as visiting someone or someplace,

    • finding a quiet spot to contemplate or meditate,

    • create an activity that honors or memorializes or celebrates that relationship.

  • Do some writing, drawing, or painting. Grief comes out in art in ways that can be releasing.

  • Create a poem or story.

  • Take a chance and reach out to someone, letting them know you are thinking of them.

  • If you find yourself with a box of assorted chocolates 🎁 call a friend to share.
