Tips for Getting Through the Holidays

The holidays can be emotionally turbulent for grievers.

Here are few suggestions for coping:

  • Talk with someone who is willing to listen without giving advice or making judgments.

  • Give yourself permission to enjoy the holidays. Accept all your feelings, remember, grief is normal.

  • Honor your loved one by embracing your memories.

  • Anticipating the holiday is almost always worse than the actual experience.

  • Be realistic about your energy level, don’t over commit and rest when you’re tired.

  • Take care of yourself, remember to practice moderation.
Get a little exercise, go for a walk.

  • Try volunteering, some people feel a little better by helping others during the holidays.
