Memorial Day
Memorial Day weekend looks like barbecues and long weekends for a lot of people. But for those who have lost someone, it can feel like the world is celebrating while they are still carrying something heavy.
The flags, the ceremonies, the "have a great holiday" texts — they can all serve as quiet reminders of who isn't here anymore. And that grief doesn't care how much time has passed.
If this weekend feels hard, your feelings make sense. Grief doesn't follow a calendar, and there is nothing wrong with you for struggling on a day the world has deemed a holiday. Be gentle with yourself, and know that whatever you are feeling right now is a completely valid response to loss.
