Here are a few suggestions to help grievers on Valentine’s Day:

  • Don’t pretend nothing’s wrong or it doesn’t hurt. Your heart’s going to remind you.

  • Find someone who will listen without giving advice or trying to “fix it.”

  • On Valentine’s Day, plan meaningful things to do, such as visiting someone or someplace, finding a quiet spot to contemplate or meditate, or create an activity that honors or memorializes or celebrates that relationship.

  • Do some writing, write about that relationship, write about your hopes and dreams, write a poem or story, and let it out be creative.

  • Don’t let yourself become invisible, reach out make the effort to connect with others.

  • If you find yourself with a box of assorted chocolates, call a friend to share.
